BANTAM.- East Indies.- views - 'la ville de Bantam, Capitale du Roiaume de même nom'.

Leiden, Van der Aa, 1706. Obl. 4to. Copperengr. view from van der Aa, unsigned. Depicting the city of Bantam. Early 18th c. Meas. appr. 29 x 37. French caption upper center in a banner. Lower center 'Leide, chez Pierre vander Aa.' (Some light browning.). From the folio van der Aa. Bantam, now Banten, city on the north coast of Western Java, Indonesia (East Indies). Early 16th c. the Portueguese were active here. Cornelis de Houtman and (under) commander de Keyser landed there as early as 1596. The VOC succeeded in gaining control of the city in 1682.
