Ricord's series of appr. 2600 inoculations in the years 1831 - 1837 were according to Proksch '... eine Grosthat in der Geschichte der Syphilidologie', worthy of recognition: Garrison, 'His treatise on the subject (1838) is memorable in the history of medicine for overthrowing Hunter's erroneous ideas as to the identity of gonorrhoea and syphilis, establishing the autonomy of these diseases.':
