BOSMANS, H. - Collection of about 150 offprints, reviews, obituaries regarding the history of mathematics, cartography, physics. 1900 - 1928.

In 3 vols. in two. Small in 4to. Contemp. half cloth (2 x black, 1 x red). (Ab. 1500 pp.). (Uncut.). (Typewritten index per volume.). A unique collection of 50 offprints and appr. 100 book reviews by this learned Belgium scholar. Mostly presentation copies to G. de Waard, famous Dutch historian of sciences. Biogr. Nationale supplt. II, 182/3 Bosmans (1852 - 1928). Henri Bosmans was born in Malines on 7 April 1852. He entered the Order of the Jesuits in 1871. Bosmans was a productive author whose historical, biographical and bibliographical papers were virtually all published in periodicals. His special interest was the early origin and history of Belgian mathematics, or to be more exact, 16th and 17th century catholic Low countries maths. His research work included scientists as Adrianus Romanus, Henri and Simon Stevin, Jean Stade, Gregoire de Saint-Vincent. His treatment of the life and times of Jesuit mathematicians on missionary work in China deserves special mention: Verbiest, Dorville, Rougemeont, Couplet, Thomas and others. Bosmans contributed many an article to specialist periodicals as "La Bibliotheca Mathematica", les "Annaes da Academia Polytechnia do Porto", 'Archiv für die Geschichte der naturwissenschaften und der Technik", "l'Archivo di Storia della Scienzia", le "Periodico di Mathematiche" (Bologna), "Archives pour l'histoire de la science" and "Isis" among many others.: Smith, Hist. of Maths.
