1978. 1978. - The 28 inch high by 20 inch wide lithographic collage on a 30 inch high by 22-1/4 inch wide watermarked art paper consists of images and patterns lithographed on layers of pink & brown paper. The abstract image, constructed of consecutive layers, consists of a light blue "v" or boomerang shaped image laid over a light pink patterned tissue filling the top half of the print. An identically shaped dark brown lithograph is laid over copper brown tissue filling the bottom half of the print. This latter copper tissue overlaps the pink resulting in a light brown band along the middle of the image. Both of these colored tissues are themselves laid over deep red tissue which peeks through along the top and left edge and from the bottom right corner. Fine. The collage is signed and dated in pencil by Dwight Dayman on the verso. The Canadian artist Dwight Dayman was associated with the Castelli Galery in New York City in 1970. He was a frequent visiting artist at the Western Front Society in Vancouver. Dayman died of AIDS at a young age. An artist run center based in Vancouver, BC, the Western Front Society was founded by several Canadian artists in 1973. The 8 founding members Martin Bartlett, Mo van Nostrand, Kate Craig, Henry Greenhow, Glenn Lewis, Eric Metcalfe, Michael Morris and Vincent Trasov sought to create a space to explore and create new forms of art.
