Leipzig: Carl Friedrich Franz, 1818. 1818. - 12mo [5 inches high by 3-3/4 inches wide], green paper covered boards with a decorative vignette in black within a decorative black frame on each cover & decorations in black on the spine. All the edges are gilt. The binding is rubbed & bumped & the spine is darkened. xx & 203 pages plus an errata page. Copper engraved frontispiece by Rosmasler after Ramberg. There is light staining to the verso of the frontispiece & offsetting from the frontispiece to the title. There is a black stain to the last leaf. Possibly lacks a rear endpaper. Some top page corners are lightly creased. Good.

From the library of bookman and Sherlockian Vincent Starrett with his signature and a 1952 date on the verso of the front endpaper.

The original verses are printed together with the parodies. Those parodied include Schiller [a number of different pieces], F. L. Gr. von Stollberg, Kosegarten, Pfeffel, Burger, Theodor Korner, Haug, Friedrich Kind, Muchler, and others. The text is in German. Good .
