Groom, Winston. - Better Times Than These.

A WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR WINSTON GROOM TO CARL BERNSTEIN, NORA EPHRON & THEIR SON JACOB - Octavo, brown boards backed with a creamy white cloth spine, titled in brown on the spine. The book is housed in a printed green dust wrapper. The book's covers are bumped at the corners. The dust jacket is creased with chips and a few short tears to the edges and a small hole along the jacket's front joint. The top edge of the jacket's rear flap is darkened. 411 pages. There is some minor speckled foxing to the top edge of the book. Very good in a good dust wrapper.

First edition of the author's first book. A wonderful association copy, inscribed by Winston Groom to Carl Bernstein, Nora Ephron, and their son Jacob: "For Carl, Nora and Jacob / Good things and God's Grace for you all / Best wishes / Winston Groom / 8/24/78.

"Better Times Than These is a novel on the largest scale -- a total portrait of men caught up in war. The protagonist of this remarkable book is Bravo Company, Fourth Battalion, Seventh Cavalry -- the same regiment George Armstrong Custer took to the Little Big Horn a century ago -- now without horses, fighting as infantry. The time is 1966. The place is Vietnam." -- [Quoted from the dust wrapper's blurb]. Good .
