Per the jacket flap, the Sioux were proud warriors, forced to live as farmers on unarable land. Once-regal chiefs were relegated to day laborers; the Sioux people were told to change their entire cultural, economic and spiritual habits. With several black & white plates depicting various Sioux leaders and tribespeople, and with a few maps. --- In full yellow cloth-covered boards with image of a Sioux shield to front, titling in blue and red to cover & spine; orange topstain. Jacket features representative images a Sioux man and woman to front panel. --- This book's jacket was once housed in an old-style Bro-Dart protector, which has left black remnants to edges of cloth covers; and with sticker removal evidence and prior owner's signature to front free endpaper, otherwise a sound, clean, tightly-bound copy. Unclipped dust jacket with small tears and traces of black smudges to edges, else intact and wrapped in new removable mylar protector.; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; xix, 334 pages.
