First published in 1873, this 1891 edition by American reprint publisher Hurst & Company adapted from dictionaries of Prof. Alfred Elwall. Includes a section of black & white illustrations of various flora, fauna, nautical or mechanical devices and other commonly-seen items at rear of volume with French and English names of the item displayed. --- In silky navy cloth-covered boards backed in black leather, with titling gilt-stamped to spine. Page edges of English-French section in red. Volume has no dust jacket. --- Title page is quite noticeably browned, and with chafing to spine (especially at ends), prior owner's signature to front endpaper and tears to paper at front and back gutters (which doesn't affect the stability of the binding); otherwise a sound, stable copy. (Scarce in this edition.); 12mo (7 to 7-1/2 in. tall); 462 pages. Good+ with no dust jacket .
