Moscow / Leningrad / Berlin: Bereshit,1926.EXTREMELY RARE! A collection of literary works by written by Russian Jews in the Hebrew language, published in the 1920s in the spirit of the recent Russian Revolution. This was one of the last Hebrew books published in the USSR before the Stalinist regime began its campaign against the Hebrew language. This book was published in the USSR, but printed in Berlin. Of the first and only edition, only the 50 copies given to the contributors survived; the rest were destroyed after the ban on Hebrew literature. The book contains many rare gems of the Russian-Hebrew literature: stories by Isaac Babel, translated under his guidance; original poems by Israel-prize winning author Yocheved Bath-Miriam, and numerous other works of poetry, prose and literary criticism by those who would later become the literary elite of the Soviet and Israeli societies. The cover features a unique lithography by the Jewish avant-garde artist Iosif (Yosef) Chaykov. 230X155mm, 199 pages. Illustrated softcover. Cover yellowing, worn and stained, with taping traces near spine. Back cover bumped. Cover edges torn. Spine edges torn. Lower portion of spine partially detached. Library stamps on copyright page, title page, first index page and last two pages. Pen inscription on title page. Pages yellowing. In spite of the damage to its cover, this very rare collection of Soviet Hebrew literature is internally in good condition. 300gr. The book is in : Hebrew .
