VORONOFF, DR SERGE. - Love and Thought in Animals and Men.

London:Methuen,1937. 1st ed. "Dr Serge Voronoff (1866-1951), was a Russian who was trained and spent all his working life in Paris. Today he is noted as one of the pioneers of the somewhat controversial hormone replacement therapy. He became famous in the 1920's, after he announced that he had done over 50 testicle transplants on humans where the donors were all apes. By the end of 1926, Voronoff was a very wealthy man from doing over a thousand operations, charging 5000 dollars for each! The procedure was so popular that Dorothy L. Sayers included it in the plot of The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club." Pp.138. Red cloth, d/w has edited book description pasted over original printing to the rear and has small edge losses + some spotting. VG/G.
