U.S. Navy. 1938. Commemorative postal cover (cacheted cover), issued for the U.S.S. Louisville CA-28 to commemorate their 1938 Good Will Cruise to Australia. 3.5" by 6.5", with an embossed pictorial map. Small b&w photo is missing from the provided inset. Cancelled stamp bears the postmark "U.S.S. Louisville Jan. 25 1938". Moderate wear, and a closed tear in front, from the opening of the envelope. Small ink notation at bottom corner of map. Fair to Good. The Louisville was a Northampton class destroyer. During this appropriately-named cruise, the crew helped rescue passengers from a capsized ferry boat in Sydney, Australia. The Louisville later had a distinguished war record, and survived multiple kamikaze hits. Good.
