U.S. Navy. 1936. Commemorative postal cover (cacheted cover), issued for the U.S.S. Nevada BB-36, commemorating their crossing of the Equator on May 20, 1936. 3.5" by 6.5", with a color cartoon-like illustration. Cancelled stamp bears the postmark "U.S.S. Nevada Jun. 6 1936". Light wear and moderate soiling. Some jagged tearing on the right hand edge, from when the envelope was opened. Good to VG. The Nevada served in both World Wars, and has the distinction of being the only battleship to leave her berth during the Pearl Harbor attack, despite being hit by multiple bombs and torpedoes.
