U.S. Navy. 1936. (Seller's envelope #2). Commemorative postal cover (cacheted cover), issued for the U.S.S. Nevada BB-36, commemorating their crossing of the Equator on May 20, 1936. 3.5" by 6.5", with a color cartoon-like illustration. Cancelled stamp bears the postmark "U.S.S. Nevada May 24 1936". Envelope is creased and worn, with a red smudge on the back. 1" high by 1.5" long piece has been snipped from the top front cover, but affects only a tiny part of the illustration. Fair. The Nevada served in both World Wars, and has the distinction of being the only battleship to leave her berth during the Pearl Harbor attack, despite being hit by multiple bombs and torpedoes.
