Bell, Robert - Wisbech: Town and City Memories

 1548128200,
The Francis Frith Collection, Salisbury, Wiltshire, 2005. First Thus, Softcover. Very Good Condition. 9781845890315 Wisbech is located around ninety miles to the north of London, at the coming together of the three counties of Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Lincolnshire. Despite being several miles from the sea, Wisbech is the only seaport in Cambridgeshire. The town's former importance as an administrative and commercial centre is sometimes overlooked, prompting queries as to why the town is referred to as the 'Capital of the Fens'. The rise of Peterborough over me last hundred years or so, and the relative prosperity of Wisbech's other important neighbour, King's Lynn, as well as the stripping away of most of its municipal powers in the 1970s, has seen a decline in the town's status. The sense of isolation has been compounded by the reduction of me town's rail links to a single freight line. Revised Edition. Size: 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. 92 pages. no Dust Jacket as published.. White titles spine. slight bump to outer bottom corner. illustrated by b/w. photo's.. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 500 grams.
