He was a professor of English literature at the Imperial University of Tokyo. He is notable for writing about the customs, religion, and literature, translations of stories of the supernatural and translations of haiku poetry. CONDITION Blue cloth with gilt titles (unworn with faded spine) frontis portrait with clean tissue guard, pp xv 303 with 4 illus plates internally. Very bright and crisp copy, foxed to ends and edges, lightly toned to pages opposing plates due to differing paper types, extensive bibliography ro rear. DJ spine has chipped away due to paper type causing two separate panels that are bright and clean. Near Fine/Good.
