FULTON, GEORGE; KNIGHT, GEORGE - A Pronouncing Spelling Book; with Reading Lessons in Prose and Verse

 1528334197,
Edinburgh, Fulton & Knight. 1817, Re-Issue. Hard Cover, 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. George Fulton (1752-1831) produced this with his nephew George Knight. Noted as an ingenious system of pronunciation avowedly formed on Sheridans plan, by which a very small number of marks are made to denote both the quantity and quality of the vowel sounds. This system of notation is so extremely simple that a child of four years of age is capable of understanding it and calling it in to his aid in his reading. First published 1813 this is dated 1817 to preface. CONDITION Full Leather (has insect damage to front, leather split at joint, stitching in tact and tight) 181 pages (light dampstain to bottom edge of pages near end, rear ep missing).
