SAINT CAESARIUS OF ARLES AND SISTER MARY MAGDELEINE MUELLER O.S.F. - Saint Caesarius of Arles Sermons, Volume I (1-80) [Fathers of the Church - Volume 31].

Catholic Univ. of America Press, 1977..Hardcover. ISBN: 0813200318. Saint Caesarius of Arles (468/470–27 August 542), sometimes called "of Chalon" (Cabillonensis or Cabellinensis) from his birthplace Chalon-sur-Saône but more usually known as Caesarius of Arles (Arelatensis) from the see that he occupied for forty years, was certainly the foremost ecclesiastic of his generation in Gaul. In all the Christian West, only Gregory the Great and Gregory of Tours overshadow him. As a preacher, Caesarius displayed great knowledge of Scripture, and was eminently practical in his exhortations. Besides reproving ordinary vices of humanity, he had often to contend against lingering pagan practices, as auguries, or heathen rites on the calends. His sermons on the Old Testament are not critical, but dwell on its typical aspects. Reprint (1977) CLEAN in text. No marks. Light wear on cover. Red faux leather boards. Translated by Sister Mary Magdeleine Mueller O.S.F.. Very Good. No DJ as Issued.
