MINT - brand new
FINE - near to new & with no visible defects
VERY GOOD - close to "fine" but with some handling wear eg minor scuffing to dustjacket, owners names inserted etc.
GOOD - all there, noticable wear to boards or dustjacket. May have front free endpaper missing
FAIR - well worn with significant faults
POOR - serious defects
