Oxford, Oxonii, e Theatro Sheldoniano, 1727 1727 Copperplate engraved emblematic frontispiece by Vertue + folding map of the Persian Empire + armorial headpiece . Quarto gilt tooled diapered calf, spine elaborately decorated in gilt, starting to split at hinges but covers firmly attached. All Edges Marbled, marbled endpapers, bookplate Richard Hungerford Pollen on FEP, inscription R H Pollen: Holborn London June 1867 on free endpaper. Collation: (12), LII, 695,(1)p errata. Latin translation runs below Greek text on each page. Margin of folding map torn without loss, faint 1cm ink stains in margin of pp iv-xii and 6cm x 1cm dark ink stains in margin of pp 312-4 not affecting text, faint pencil marks p 237, brown stains in gutter at top of last 3 pages just touching text. Otherwise clean and crisp, in a fine 18th century gilt-tooled full calf binding. Provenance: Sir Richard Hungerford Pollen 4th Bt. of Rodbourne (1846-1918).
