Basel, Hervagium 2nd edition 1549 Woodcuts (48 artistic illustrations of constellations etc.) . Small folio 304x202mm, 18th(?) century vellum with gilt spine titling (8)+261pp +(25pp) & index; TP with inscription to foot of page and ink smudge to part of publisher's name which, in the case of part of the word Hervagium, has damaged the paper now repaired on the back. Imprint readable as Basileae per Ioannem (next line) .. Anno 1549 Mense Martio. Lacks 2 leaves of prelims (ie the dedication (alpha2&3 recto) and Authors list (alpha3 verso)) which are laid in in facsimile. A few leaves lightly foxed but else a very clean, wide margined copy. *Deals with astonomy and its mythology with fine woodcuts taken from astronomical Codex. The later editions were much reduced in size being octavo or even 16mo and thus lose much of the fine typographical layout of the Basel editions(Adams H-1252) Ownership inscription reads "Est Petri Angel..Bargaei" followed by motto in Greek. There is also another inscription on pastedown which has been scratched out.
