Starting out in Petersburg, the author than travels to Moscow, Yaroslaf, Vologda, Yurievetz, Nizhni Novgorod - where he meets Old Believers, Molokane and Dukhobors, travels on to Kazan where he sees the punishment of the Knout and a Tartar village. Then on to the Isthmus of the Volga, Katharinenstadt, Penza, Voronezh and Ekaterinoslaf and the Mennonites. Eventually arriving in Feodosia and Kertch. Hardcover.
