Vi [of viii] the missing title & plate +382pp This is a reimpression of the new edition of Daniel Elsevir published after his death by Henry Wetsten it is a line for line copy of the 1672 printing except that the "monita medica" has been moved from the end [pages 383-92 become *5-*6] to prelims at the front. There are 2 old neat library stamps of the Birmingham General Hospital to the margins of *2 & *3 otherwise clean copy. Gathering 8 is printed with pages printed on one side only and glued together to give a double sided text. There are well executed engravings including an early depiction of an oranutang, also two examples of Siamese twins etc, this work also includes early descriptions of migraines and the impact of smoking tobacco on the lungs. This book has been known as the "book of monsters" due Tulp`s disection of animals brought back to the Netherlands by the Dutch East India Company. *Tulp`s anatomy lessons are the subject of a famous painting by Rembrandt.
