An leather bound illustrated copy of William Hickman Smith Aubrey's 'History of England' Leather bound with decorative gilt tooling to spine and cloth covered boards. Illustrated with colour and engraved plates, as well as numerous in-text illustrations. In three volumes complete. William Aubrey (1858-1916), was a London author and journalist, privately educated in the USA in New York and at Rutgers. He was later editor of The Morning Weekly and Capital and Labour, and a reviewer at the Daily News. In full calf binding. Externally smart.There is some wear to the extremities, particularly to the spines which are rubbed and chipped. The spine to Vol. I is also torn and becoming detached at the front outer hinge. The corners are bumped and chipped, and the front and rear outer hinges are cracked. Internally, generally firmly bound. The front inner hinges to Vols. II and III are strained but holding. Pages are bright apart from some occasional spotting affecting the plates in particular. There are also some isolated handling marks. There is a copperplate inscription dated 1879 to the front blank end paper of all three volumes. Good . Ill.: Various. Good .
