London, E P Williams, 1856-7. Leather. An interesting collection of biographies of several notable figures. These biographies are linked by the subjects' dwellings in Eton and Windsor. Illustrated throughout with nineteen engravings, all with tissue-guards. All other editions appear to be dated 1857, ours is dated as 1856 to title page. No author attributed to title page, though author is known as William Dowling as stated on Copac. The poets discussed are Milton, Cowley, Denham, Waller and Pope. The Statesman are Burke, Fox, Canning, Lord Grenville and The Marquis Wellesley. In original calf binding with pictorial gilt stamping to the front board and spine. Externally, very smart with just some rubbing to the spine and joints. Remnants of old library shelf sticker to the bottom of spine and boards. Handling marks to boards. Library plate to front pastedown, Pembrokeshire Education Committee. Further library stamp to verso of title page, Dyfed Library. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with scattered spots to the first and last few pages and the odd spot throughout. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
