Many of the poems published in this work were written on Cowper's recovery of his attack of insanity, where he believed he was condemned to hell and the influence of this can be seen in his pieces, The Progress of Error and Human Frailty. In a calf binding with gilt, blindstamped detailing to boards. Externally, sound with bumping to corners and marks to rear board. Rubbing to board edges and head and tail of spine. Prize ink inscription on front free end-paper. Internally, firmly bound with foxing to first few pages, tidemarks to last few pages and scattered spotting throughout. Very Good . Ill.: None.
