London, W. Strahan, T. Becket and Co. 1772. Leather. William Harris' account of the life and reign of James I of England. Second edition. 'Drawn from original writers and state-papers&apos. After writing a life of the English Civil War regicide Hugh Peters (1751), Harris published An Historical and Critical Account of the Life and Writings of James the First, King of Great Britain (1753), which was to prove his most controversial work because of its very negative but highly detailed portrait of James VI and I as a bad monarch and a deeply flawed human being. In a speckled calf binding. Externally, generally smart, though with some slight rubbing to the extremities. Corners are slightly bumped, and joints are starting. Internally, firmly bound. Label to front pastedown, and ink stamps to title page. Pages are bright and generally clean, though with some foxing and tidemarks to the endpapers. Very Good . Ill.: None. Very Good .
