Thomas Holcroft (1745 – 1809) was an English dramatist and miscellaneous writer. His novels include Alwyn (1780), an account, largely autobiographical, of a strolling comedian, Anna St. Ives (the first British Jacobin novel, published in 1792), and The Adventures of Hugh Trevor (1794 - 1797). Sympathetic to the early ideals of the French Revolution, Holcroft assisted in the publication of the first part of Thomas Paine's The Rights of Man in 1791. In a half calf binding with marbled boards. Externally a trifle rubbed, some wear to the boards and extremities. Internally, firmly bound with generally clean pages throughout, save for some tidemarks and spotting to the rear. Textblock cockled. Good . Ill.: None. Good .
