His foray in to the world of politics began when Addison was invited to write a poem depicting the Battle of Blenheim, by the Lord Treasurer. This work was so well received that it earned him a place in parliament, as Commissioner of Appeals. He would hold numerous positions in government from that time on, eventually ended up as the MP for Malmesbury, a position he held until his death in 1719. In a calf binding. Externally, rubbed.
