A Bible concordance is a verbal index to the Bible which most simply lists Biblical words alphabetically, with indications to enable the reader to find passages of the Bible where the words occur. Verbal concordances of the Bible were the invention of Dominican Friars the first of which was completed in 1230. In a quarter calf binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and bumping. Label to front board. Joints and hinges failed. Both boards and backstrip detached but present. Internally, generally firmly bound although strained in places. Title page and endpapers loosening.
