London, William Heinemann, 1899. Leather. An historical work regarding French literature. In a prize binding by Relfe Brothers. Their binder's stamp is to the verso of front endpaper. This book was a prize from Thetford Girls' Grammar School as noted by the school crest to the front board and the prize bookplate to front pastedown. Written by Edward Dowden, an Irish critic and poet who had great interest in French history and literature. Dowden also wrote a work on the French Revolution. This work discusses French literature from the middle ages to the 1850's. A 'New Impression' of this work, published two years after the first. In a full calf binding with gilt stamping to the spine and front board. Externally, very smart with minor shelfwear to the joints and spine. Spine has faded somewhat. Small patches of light rubbing to spine. A Few light marks to boards. Hinges are strained, but firm. Prize bookplate to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to the edges with a few spots to endpapers and the odd spot throughout. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
