Light shelfwear. ; Octavo; 65 pages; Brendan Galvin (October 20, 1938 – August 17, 2023) was an acclaimed American poet celebrated for his vivid depictions of the natural world, particularly the landscapes of Cape Cod. Born in Everett, Massachusetts, to a mail carrier and a hairdresser, Galvin's early life included working in various jobs such as tarring roads and working in a meat department. He pursued higher education with dedication, earning a BS from Boston College, an MA from Northeastern University, and both an MFA and a PhD from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Galvin authored over 15 poetry collections, including Winter Oysters (1983) , Hotel Malabar (1998) —which won the Iowa Poetry Prize—and Habitat: New and Selected Poems 1965–2005, a finalist for the National Book Award. Throughout his career, Galvin received numerous accolades, such as a Guggenheim Fellowship, two NEA fellowships, and the Levinson Prize from Poetry magazine. He held teaching positions at various institutions, including Hollins University and the University of Alabama. Galvin resided in Truro, Massachusetts, with his wife, Ellen, until his passing at the age of 84 due to a heart attack.. New .
