Upon the death of his father, Amyot went to live with his neighbour, the entomologist Jean Guillaume Audinet-Serville, who stimulated him to do research in the neglected order of insects Hemiptera. They became lifelong friends and research partners. It was published as parts of the Suites à Buffon, a long series of monographs on natural history edited by Nicolas Roret. With the armorial bookplate of the French entomologist Ernest Olivier (1844-1914).
