Contemporary vellum; remains of ties; spine of vol. 2 repaired, covers of vol. 3 slightly sprung and a few quires loose. ***** The author, born at Alcalá de Henares in 1610 is known for his poetry, his lively and witty plays and for this important work of literary historiography. A model of Castilian prose, Solís's account of the conquest of Mexico (first published in 1684) covers a period of two years: from the journey of Juan de Grijalva in 1518 to the final surrender of Montezuma in 1520.
