Illustrated, with thirteen photographs over twelve plates. Written by Olive Murray Chapman, an individual described as a 'determined English lady traveller&apos. Chapman was inspired to travel following the death of her husband during the First World War. She decided that instead of remarrying she would see the world and document her travels. Across Iceland was her first book, and following this she went on to write books on Cyprus and Madagascar. This book gives an insight into the life and conditions of Iceland in the early 20th century. It discusses the advance towards civilisation, the people Chapman met in addition to a reflection on the natural features and history of the island. In original green cloth binding held in original dustwrapper. Externally, very smart with some bumping to the head and tail of spine. Spine has faded slightly. Dustwrapper is excellent with minor shelfwear, though is rather age toned. Prior owner's inscription to front pastedown, Ex Libris A E Tydenian Major RME Reykjavik 1944. Internally firmly bound.
