The series of maps and travel guides started when Abel Haywood, who founded series publisher, noticed that working class people were just beginning to use trains to travel for pleasure. Seeing no affordable travel guides, he began to publish a series of Penny Guides. By 1912, Heywood had about one hundred different guide pamphlets in publication. In a limp cloth binding. Externally, slightly rubbed, with wear to the top and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean.
