Bernard was a Twelth Century French abbot, the primary builder of the Cistercian order. He is particularly known for being commisioned by Pope Eugenius II to preach the importance of The Crucades, the failure of which is said to have deeply saddened him. Contains ink inscription to title page. In half-calf binding with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally sound, there is some wear and markings to the boards and extremities.
