Early reprint (1898) of this American parody of Sherlock Holmes, written between 'The Final Problem' and 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' with dedication to Arthur Conan Doyle thanking him for the 'untimely demise of his great detective which made these things possible.' All B & W illustrations checked and present. Creases in list of illustrations page; light yellowing to free endpapers; otherwise internally VG. Binding tight. Buff/golden cloth browned and foxed on spine with patchy colour loss to boards. Black lettering and colourful decoration on front board; gilt lettering on spine.
