PLUTARCH - Plutarch's lives of illustrious men (2 volumes)

Chatto & Windus, 1875. Used - Acceptable. Fair hardbacks . Two volumes, dated 1876. Translated from the Greek by John and William Langhorne. A new edition, with numerous portraits, including B & W frontispiece in vol. I with tissue guard, both lightly foxed. Light foxing on page edges of both volumes, but very little internally. Owner's name on front free endpaper verso of vol. I (dated 1877) and front pastedown of vol. II. Worn maroon pebbled cloth with blind border decorations on boards and gilt lettering on spines. Chipping at spine heads/feet. Rear joint of vol. I split and repaired, with small loss to spine removing the volume number; title otherwise intact.
