Born in the Midwest in 1882, Bellows came to immediate prominence in NY and was featured among Americans at the famous Armory show in 1913. Unlike most of his contemporary he never went to Europe though he absorbed its rebolutionary movements in art. He painted American from coast to coast and documented the American ethos, its pastimes, its settings and its people for his own time and for all time to come.
