Born and reared in rural Wisconsin, Powers' adventuresome spirit drew her to NYC in the 1930s where she soon became part of the Catholic literary revival. As her work was receiving critical claim, she abrupty left NY's artistic environment for a Carmelite monastery where for 47 years in silence and solitude she explored the mysteries of the human soul and the mystery of God fashioning poetry out of her discoveries. Author Leckey is the executive director of the Secretariat for Family, Laity, Women and Youth.
