Concord, MA, By author, (1974). VG PB. Living in Canandaigua, NY, Lee's family grew up in the 1890s with her brothers and sister. Her mother was of Puritan stock. and her father was English and graduated from Amherst in 1864 and enlisted in the Civil War. They also had a cabin on Lake Canandaigua.
