Zinoview was born in 1922 and as a youth attracted the attention. of the Soviet Police for criticizing the Stalin personality cult and was first sent to a psychiatric clinic and then to prison. Later during the war he served in a calvary and in an armored regiment before transferring to the Air Force as a fighter pilot. After the war he studied philosophy at the University of Moscow and held a research appointment. He was deprived of all his appiontments and expelled from the Communist Party upon the publication of this book in the West. He also wrote The Radiant Future.
