In 1765 ath the age of 14, Murray began keeping copies of hundreds of letters she wrote to family, friends, political figures & leadings citizens of the emerging American nation. By her death she had copies almost 2,000 letters into her letter book. Discovered in 1984, they had never been read, published or analyzed in their entirety.
