Each plate is accompanied by a leaf explaining the photographs, with the text in both Arabic and German. Some of the photographs are by the Swedish photographer Lewis Larsson (1881-1958). Others were taken during the expedition by Otto Puchstein (1856-1911) to the capital of the ancient Hittite Empire, Hattusa, in present-day Turkey.Only very slightly browned, the fore-edge of the book block is very slightly foxed, with a small tear in the center of the last two leaves, very slightly affecting text and image (without loss).
