From the collection of Charles Spencer, 3rd Earl of Sunderland (lot 8897 in his sale, 1882). Paris, Petrus Chevillot, 1586. Nonius Marcellus, Latin grammarian and lexicographer (fl. end of the 3rd or the beginning of the 4th century AD) and compiler of the present lexically work "De compendiosa doctrina per litteras" in twenty sections or chapters. The first twelve of which deal with language and grammar, the remaining eight with special subjects such as arms, food, costume, navigation. This present work is also attributed to Fabius Planciades Fulgentius with the French calvinist Denis Godefroy (c. 1549-1622) as editor. - Brunet IV, 97; cf.
