(7.2 x 4.9 inches). vi, 178pp. Inscribed on the half title by the Author's half sister, to her future husband; "W H C Rees from Mary Gwendoline Naden". Above this the inscription "Herbert from G" has been crossed through. A very good copy in the publishers decorative blue cloth binding, with bevelled boards. Gilt floral designs and lettering to the front board and spine. Brown coated endpapers. The spine is a bit darkened and there is some minor chipping and rubbing to the top. Inner hinges are cracked but firm. Overall a very good copy of this rare work. ------ Constance Caroline Woodhill Naden (1858 – 1889) was, among many things, an English writer, poet, early advocate of Women's suffrage, philanthropist, scientist and philosopher. After her death at the young age of 31, Mason Science College (now the University of Birmingham) established the Constance Naden Medal and commissioned a bust of her to be installed. William Ewart Gladstone considered her one of the 19th century's foremost female poets.
