Hardcover, bound in three-quarter dark blue leather and cloth, titled in gilt between raised bands on the spine. The edges are marbled. The covers are rubbed and stained with some of the leather chipped from the spine. xl & 332 pages, illustrated with a full-page frontispiece portrait and 4 additional portraits of Thomas Bewick and profuse textual wood engravings, mostly by Thomas & John Bewick. The pages are unusually clean and bright. Very good. First edition. The Memoir and Descriptive Catalogue, found on pages v through xxxi, are by John Trotter Brockett. Very good .
