ANNO, MITSUMASA - Strange pictures [Japanese character edition]

Tokyo: Fukuinkan-Shoten, 1968; 4t0 (27cm), 28pp., colour drawings, illustrated front and back boards. V. good copy. Rare. ¶ Mitsumasa Anno (1926-2021) was a Japanese painter and illustrator, world famous for his intriguing drawn children's books. This edition with Japanese characters - most probably a 1st edition - was Anno's first successful book. It is clearly inspired by the Dutch graphic artist M.C. Esscher. As far as we know this book was never issued in English or any other language. Apart from the covers, title page and copyright page this is a wordless book which triggers one's fantasy to 'read' the story.
