George Sand [Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin] - Histoire de Ma Vie![]() Paris, Calmann Levy, 1879. Leather. A smart new edition of this autobiographical work from French writer George Sand, in the original French. French. Complete in four volumes. New edition. An autobiographical work from Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin de Francueil, best known by her pen name George Sand, a French novelist, memoirist and journalist. Sand was more renowned than either Victor Hugo or Honore de Balzac in England in the 1830s and 1840s, and is recognised as one of the most notable writers of the European Romantic era. These volumes cover her life up to shortly before the Revolution of 1848, consisting largely of extensive rewriting of letters that she had sent and received. The work is considered a literary masterpiece with value as a social document and a family history. The text is generally organised into five parts, being: Histoire d"une Famille de Fontenoy àMarengo (History of a Family from Fontenoy to Marengo); Mes Premières Années (My Early Years); De l"Enfance àla Jeunesse (From Childhood to Youth); Du Mysticisme àl"Indépendance (From Mysticism to Independence); and Vie Littéraire et Intime (Literary and Personal Life). In later editions of the work these parts are much further pronounced. Bound in half calf with marbled boards and gilt. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and fading to the spines. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with light age toning to the extremities. The odd small spot or tide mark to the endpapers. Very Good Indeed . Ill.: None. Very Good Indeed .
