First editions. Smartly bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Two works bound together, both of which were published by the Religious Tract Society. Dated using Jisc, from copies of the work held at the British Library and the University of Oxford. Comprised of the following: 'The Life of John Kaspar Lavater' (1949), an anonymously written biography of Swiss poet, philosopher and theologian, Johann Kaspar Lavater.'Jamaica: Enslaved and Free' (1846), written by the Rev. Benjamin Luckock, who spent around eighteen years living in Jamaica and the West Indies. Luckock presents a brief history of Jamaica, providing information on the islands climate, agriculture, white inhabitants and more. Notably, the author discuss the slave trade and notions of freedom following changes to law in the last twelve years. Bound in half calf with marbled paper-covered boards. Externally, very smart, with a small bump to the head of the front board and minor shelf wear. A few spots to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound with bright, clean pages. Very Good Indeed .
